Wimbledon Center Court

Centre Court, as the name suggests, is the main court situated at any tennis complex. However, Center Court is always referred to as the main court at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, in Wimbledon, London, England. The court serves as the main venue for Wimbledon Championships, one of the most coveted tournaments of the game. Constructed in 1922, Center Court accommodated as many as 13810 spectators for the 2008 Wimbledon Championships. The roof of the court was created in 1922. In order to improved its facilities, the roof was replaced in 1992. Construction of the fixed portion of the new roof was completed before the 2008 tournament. In the present time, a retractable roof has been erected at Center Court, for the 2009 Wimbledon Championships. This has increased the capacity of the court. Center Court consists of an addition of six rows of seats in the upper tier on its east, north and west sides. The court has provided additional media facilities. Scoreboard including video is an innovative addition to the court. The seats are now wider than before. Commentary boxes will be built, new additional stairs and lifts will be added to the court. The center court is made lively for two weeks during the Wimbledon Championship, held every year. Apart from serving as a venue for tennis, Center Court has its own shopping mall by the same name, situated at the heart of the Wimbledon town. The shopping mall attracts hundreds of customers. It is flocked by people during the Wimbledon season. Thus, Center Court proves to be a boon for the shopping lovers as well as tennis fans.
